Basic Function Coordinates content for Foreign Policy (FP) program web site pages and maintains information structure for FP-related web content. Provides support and assistance for media outreach, program events, and publications. Education/Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree required, M.A. degree preferred in Communications, Journalism, International Relations, or relevant field; minimum 2 years related experience required; website content management experience necessary; knowledge of the media community and outreach strategizing also required. Knowledge Requirements Strong knowledge of HTML and information architecture; familiarity with content management systems; capacity to learn new applications. Excellent organizational, communication, and writing skills required. Ability to prioritize; ability to work well under pressure with discretion and mature judgment; self-starter; ability to communicate and work well with others. Applicants must be currently authorized to work for any employer in the U.S. Principal Duties and Responsibilities 60% Coordination of FP program web pages: Responsible for primary oversight of FP web pages, maintaining consistency with FP research, communications, and outreach goals. Creates and updates all FP program web pages in accordance with Brookings Institution web standards; posts articles, op-eds, congressional testimony, events, interviews and other web content. Performs regular editing of all FP center pages and project pages to maintain fresh content; prepares and reads content for posting; chooses informative key words to embed in web page source code through topic selection and tagging. Scans major newspapers and online news-feeds daily for articles, op-eds, and other content produced by FP scholars. Communicates with research assistants, scholars, and center administrators to present FP program work on the web site in a timely and efficient manner; advises center administrators on newsletter development and design. Maintains and enhances the FP web section’s information architecture in collaboration with appropriate central Communications (COMM) department staff. In collaboration with Communications Director, drafts outreach language for the web site, print material, and events. Serves as liaison to COMM; attends bi-weekly web meetings convened by COMM; and COMM outreach meetings. Attends weekly FP administrative team meetings to keep updated, provide information on FP program events and recent scholar publications. Analyzes web statistics to better promote material on FP section of web site. Selects news-related stock imagery for features throughout program web pages. 40% Outreach Assistance: Generally assists the FP program’s Comm Director with a variety of outreach tasks – developing media contacts, disseminating scholar reports and other program materials to Executive Branch agencies and the Hill, developing and maintaining a program-wide contact database. Assists in the production of the program’s monthly newsletter and other web-based and printed materials. Generates weekly impact reports, detailing scholar media appearances, Hill testimony, new publications, etc. Maintains the program’s events calendar, detailing the program’s public and private events in coordination with center and project managers. Includes detailed information on national and international news events of relevance to the program. Assists with program-wide events meeting. Assists in the design and content development for FP internal and external communication products – brochures, newsletters, power point presentations, and other briefing materials. Assists Communications Director and scholars as needed with relevant materials for research for proposals, reports, analysis, and events. -Assists Communications Director with event planning from inception to completion, including development of web strategies to promote the events, overall event management, and general event outreach. Contributes to on-going communication strategies to support FP strategic goals and objectives. Serves as liaison to the Brookings-wide web management team. Stays informed of technological and content changes that impact the FP program web pages. Supervises FP communications intern and helps in the intern selection process.
