The Herald Journal newspaper in Logan, Utah, has an opening for a full-time news reporter.
The ideal candidate is able to produce multiple stories each week on his or her beat while juggling several long-term projects. We're looking for someone who can write tight, quick stories on deadline, longer in-depth stories over time and who can generate innovative story ideas. The job requires some night and weekend work, although the regular work week is Monday through Friday. Experience in multi-media, including Web design, video production and editing, and page layout is always a plus. A bachelor's degree in journalism or a related field, or sufficient experience in the newspaper business, is required. The position will be open in mid-June. The Herald Journal covers the Logan, Utah-Preston, Idaho, metropolitan area, which is made up of about 120,000 people. The paper is published daily and has a circulation of about 17,000. Logan is located in Cache Valley, a northern Utah area home to Utah State University. Logan is 80 miles north of Salt Lake City and about a three-hour drive from Jackson Hole, Wyo. Summers are great for hiking nearby mountain trails, and winters provide good ski weather.
